Three Essays on the European Central Bank Governance
The main objective of the work would be to offer deeper insight into the impacts the central bank communication could have. I have chosen three areas that the amount of literature on is not developed. I will use unique dataset including information about the European Central Bank communication during my research.
In the first part, I would like to study the impact of the central bank communication on the citizens’ trust in the European Central bank. Many studies suggest that the more information the citizens have the more their trust the central bank. I would try to confirm that also information obtained from central bank communication is significant determinant of the trust.
Secondly, I would like to study the relationship between the central bank communication and Taylor rule. The main goal of the second part will be to confirm or deny the fact that the communication of ECB can be used as a significant explanatory variable in Taylor rule. Above that, I would like to compare the coefficient of extended Taylor rule and its original version.
Finally, the main objective of the last part will be to study the impact of the European Central Bank communication on the European financial markets. The main aspect I would like to study is the contagion in financial markets – which markets react at first and how the contagion spreads to other markets.
