An article of our colleague Zuzana Havránková, Tomáš Havránek and Dominik Herman was published on an economic portal VOX. The article “Does Daylight Saving Save Electricity? A Meta-Analysis“ questions the positive effect of daylight saving time. On contrary, based on modern empirical literature, the savings on average make only 0,34 % of annual energy consumption. The extent of savings is related to latitude – regions at higher latitude enjoy slightly more savings, but subtropical regions consume more energy because of daylight saving time.
