A special lecture „Global Economic Outlook: Brexit and Trade Wars“


We cordially invite all interested to a special lecture by Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi on the topic of “Global Economic Outlook: Brexit and Trade Wars“. Dr. Panitchpakdi is the former Director General of World Trade Organization (WTO), Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand.

The talk and subsequent discussion will take place on Wednesday September 12th from 10:00 am till 12:00 am at the premises of the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University: Opletalova 26, Praha 1

The lecture is organized by the Royal Thai Embassy in the Czech Republic and the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is an official partner of the lecture. Opening remarks will be given by Mr. Martin Tlapa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Vice-Dean for International Affairs, Zuzana Kasakova.

Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi served as Director General of the World Trade Organisation (2002-2005) as the first representative of the developing countries in that position. He also completed two terms as Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (2005-2013). His career has spanned wide-ranging areas, starting off as an officer of the Bank of Thailand, he became Deputy Finance Minister, Commerce Minister, and twice Deputy Prime Minister. In between he assumed for some years the presidency role of a commercial bank, and chairman of several private corporations including an international insurance company. At present, he is a board member of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin and a founding member of the Asia-New Zealand Foundation.
