Tomáš Havránek: Economic policy during and after corona crisis
Our colleague, associate professor Tomáš Havránek, is among the signatories of the text "Economic policy under the pandemic: A European perspective", published by VoxEU, a portal which brings out analyses of leading European economists. The main author and initiator of the article is Per Krusell, President of the European Economic Association and a member of the Prize Committee for The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Another Czech representative among the signatories is associate professor Filip Matějka (CERGE-EI).
The recommendations for the post-pandemic times, that the signatories of the article agreed on, include focusing on restoring the economic stability and healthy ties between firms and their employees, customers and input suppliers, rather than long-term goals. They also call for clear communication of the policies to minimise uncertainty, for cooperation across countries, and for a clear and unified strategy in the management of national debts.
Associate professor Havránek also addressed the topic of coronavirus and government measures used in the Czech Republic in a recently published commentary for Hospodářské noviny.
