Dr. Jaromír Baxa (IES), Dr. Roman Horváth (IES) and Dr. Bořek Vašíček (Czech National Bank) have published a column in VoxEU.org on the interactions between monetary policy and financial stability. The column is a follow-up to their paper forthcoming in the Journal of Financial Stability. VoxEU.org is a policy portal set up by the Centre for Economic Policy Research that aims to promote research-based policy analysis and commentary by leading scholars.

Julie Chytilová awarded the 2011 Neuron Prize

Our faculty member dr. Julie Chytilová has been awarded the 2011 Neuron Price by the Karel Janeček foundation. The award is given to top Czech researchers younger than 40 years in the fields of economics, medicine and mathematics. Julie Chytilová has received the prize for her work on microeconomic sources of poverty. Congratulations!

Excellence Research grant by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic

In a joint team with CERGE-EI, MFF UK, UTIA and VSE, our faculty members have received a new Excellence Research grant by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic. This 7-year research grant has an ambition to strengthen the links between economists and mathematicians in order to develop new dynamic economic models. The grant serves also as a great opportunity for doctoral students who are involved as co-investigators.

The 2012 Competition of Master Degree Theses on Economics and Finance

The competition is open to students in the process of completing or having recently completed theirstudies and having achieved or are about to achieve the following level: Second, third or final year programmes of the French ‘Grandes Écoles’ (with specialisation in finance or economics), Second or third year post-graduate programme with specialisation in finance or economics (Master’s Degree as MSc, MA or MBA) or ny equivalent post-graduate programme with prior agreement of the Centre. The winners, ‘runners up’, ‘honourable mentions’ and finalists will be announced at the award ceremony that will take place in the first half of 2012. IES researchers highly successful in receiving the research grants by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic

Three research teams led by the IES faculty members have received prestigious research grants by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic. The team led by Vladimir Benacek will focus on developing gravity models to analyze trade flows. The team led by Roman Horvath will examine the interactions of monetary and fiscal policies during global financial crisis. Jiri Novak and his team will concentrate on analyzing the accounting aspects of initial public offerings. The grants are also a great opportunity for doctoral students who are involved as co-investigators.

ČEPS, announces the first annual thesis competition 2012 - Award CEPS. The competition is aimed at supporting higher education, increasing the attractiveness of the energy and electricity sectors and to support promising students. Each category  will be awarded. The winner is chosen by a committee composed of experts from the CEPS. Rate the overall level of the thesis, the originality of approach to the topic, practical benefits. Czech Certified Financial Analysts (CFA) Society organizes an international real life case competition. Teams of 3-5 students prepare an equity report about a company and present it to a panel of evaluators from Czech businesses. Each team is assigned a mentor, CFA charter-holder, with extensive business experience. Winners proceed to regional round and global round. Information meeting for all interested students will be held on October 12, 2011 at the University of Economics in Prague (VSE) at 19.30 in room RB212  (Rajska Budova). The pdf presentation at the heading of the message or at the GIRC web site.
