Mobility Opportunities

1) OPPORTUNITIES AT FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

A) For opportunities see International Mobility web of FSV

Erasmus, Faculty and University Agreements, CEEPUS, Summer Schools

B) GEMCLIME project

The GEMCLIME project aims at supporting mobility between Charles University (besides other participating EU universities) on one side, and top universities in the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, and Chile on the other side. GEMCLIME offers mobility grants of 2000 EUR per month to researchers and PhD students. Applicants can receive funding for research stays lasting between 1-12 months. More information is available at http://gemclime.cuni.cz/.

C) THE RECTOR'S MOBILITY FUND

The Rector's Mobility Fund (Fond mobility UK) is the university's main instrument for the support of students studying abroad. The Mobility Fund generally issues two calls for funding applications per year, one with a deadline in March, and one in October. The Mobility Fund has two basic principles:

  1. It will only ever fund future travel plans (i.e. it will not fund travel in arrears).
  2. It will provide no more than half of the student's anticipated expenses. The aim of the Mobility Fund is to provide a contribution to the student's extra living/study expenses while they are abroad, not to provide 100% financing.

The aim of the Mobility Fund is financial support especially for:

  • study stays of Charles University students at foreign universities from one to two semesters;
  • study stays of foreign students and researchers at Charles University;
  • participation in international academic events (e.g. international conferences, summer schools);
  • short-term scientific and research stays abroad.

It is highly recommended that all students apply for this funding as it can be also complementary funding to other sources such as GEMCLIME, Summer school mobility fund, or Conference mobility fund. Chances to obtain funding are quite high. More information about The Rector's Mobility Fund is available at https://www.fsv.cuni.cz/en/academics/study-abroad-opportunities/mobility-funding.

For details see the Handbook for Doctoral Students

2) OPPORTUNITIES AT THE INSTITUTE OF ECONOMIC STUDIES

Summer School Mobility Fund

The scholarships of Summer School Mobility Fund react to the demand of IES doctoral students without other funding possibilities (GAUK etc.), for covering costs of prestigious summer schools that provide education and training unavailable at IES. The list of top summer schools for economists is published annually at www.inomics.com blog. A call for SSMF applications is distributed three times a year (February; May; September – winter schools are also supported) whereas the target amount for each stipend is approximately 15 000 CZK (this amount can be increased in exceptional cases). Funding may cover the participation fee; travel expenses; lodging and a contribution on board up to 50% of relevant expenses will be provided.

The criteria for the selection of applicants are:

  • the quality of the event and the organizing institution,
  • the importance for the applicant's research,
  • the quality of the applicant and his/her research.

Students with active grant from the Grant Agency of Charles University are not eligible for receiving financial support from this fund.

For details see the Handbook for Doctoral Students
