|Description:||.The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the regime of international protection of investments. The course will focus on (i) the standards of investment protection commonly encountered in bilateral investment treaties; (ii) the functioning of investment arbitrations in which foreign investors bring claims against host states (with emphasis on arbitrations brought before the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes); (iii) analysis of important arbitral awards that demonstrate the basic features of investment protection; and (iv) the broader context of investment protection, such as its relevance for the economic development of host countries.|
