10/10/2012 - New course Quantitative Methods I
All Master and PhD students are invited to enroll into the new course Quantitative Methods I. Its goal is to give an introduction to advanced quantitative methods in social sciences. The emphasis will be put on application of econometric methods, such as measurement of economic policies, Bayesian econometrics, high-frequency finance, robust econometrics, meta-analysis, time series econometrics or experimental econometrics. All students who want to attend this course should register in SIS.

27/04/2011 - 2-year Post-Doc Fellowship on Political Economy and Global Finance at CEU
The Political Economy Research Group (PERG) at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship on the "Political Economy of Global Finance" to begin in fall of 2011. In addition to working on his or her research and publication agenda, the post-doctoral fellow will be expected to attend and actively engage in PERG seminar meetings, participate in collaborative research projects with PERG members, give a public lecture at CEU, and contribute to the organization of lectures or a workshop with renowned scholars in the field. The application package should consist of a single PDF file with a short letter of motivation stating the candidate's qualifications and reasons for interest in the fellowship, a research proposal outlining current and future research (2-3 pages), a CV, the contact information of three references (including e-mail, phone number, mailing address, and relationship to the applicant), and one writing sample (published article, work-in progress, or a dissertation chapter). The Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) at the University of Mannheim offers two PhD positions (project researchers) in a DFG funded project ‘Weathering the crisis? Adjusting welfare states in Eastern Europe after the crisis of 2008’. The position is tenable for a period of 3 years, starting on 1 September 2011.
The project analyses the political and economic determinants of the welfare state restructuring in Eastern Europe in the context of post-2008 austerity politics. Researcher A will be responsible for a research module including empirical work in the CzechRepublic, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Researcher B will conduct a study on Ukraine, Belarus, and Hungary. The 6th Biennial Conference of the Czech Economic Society will take place on Saturday November 27, 2010 at VŠE Praha. Deadline for the submissions of completed papers in English (preferred), Czech or Slovak languages is September 30, 2010. By this date, members of the Czech Economic Society and students are also welcomed to register for passive participation in the conference.
