| Description: | Our project has three aims. First, we will focus on the statistical investigation and validation of the use of meta-regression analysis to summarize, explain, and correct reported findings from quasi-experimental and experimental research studies in economics. The existing meta-analysis models in economics have been designed for the synthesis of econometric results. Second, we will develop a statistical model that will incorporate and correct for both sources of publication selection bias: the selection for intuitive signs and the selection for statistical significance. The existing models treat the sources of bias separately. Finally, we will apply meta-regression methods to investigate important economic questions for which no quantitative synthesis of empirical results has yet been done. We will examine, for example, the effect of national borders on trade, the efficient market hypothesis, and the relation between bank competition and financial stability. |
