Abstract: The dissertation describes the market of university educational services with the help of different model views. The description of theoretical concepts is structured according to the supply and demand as well as their mutual interaction. Further I am concerned with the concepts that keep track of both the efficiency and performance evaluation of universities.
Three advanced models that look for the optimum of the market of educational services are described in the thesis. A detailed specification is presented of the model of the system of univeristies that do not optimize but are governed by procedural rationality, which means that their reaction to the actual market situation is controlled at any moment by rules given in advance. This model is complemented with simulation experiments where the behavior of the system with respect to different approaches to financing the university educational sector is compared.
Quality and quality management at universities is the subject of the closing section where a general approach to evolutionary processes is applied to the development of the quality of education. Moreover, the problem of coordination of universities towards cooperation, that is the fundamental condition for benchmarking, is analyzed there.
