Abstract: The bachelor thesis Slovenia: Economic Development in the 90´s of the 20th Century maps the situation in which the Slovenian economy performed during the last ten years of the previous century. The first chapter contains basic information of the Republic of Slovenia; especially in the sphere of geography, history, government structure and also current economic situation. The second chapter pictures economic and political background of Slovenia as the part of the former Yugoslav federation and so indicates starting conditions of the young transformation economy which were substantially varied in comparison with other former Yugoslav republics and other postcommunist countries. The third chapter analyses the consequences of the disintegration of the Yugoslav federation for the Slovenian economy. The fourth chapter summarizes the development of main macroeconomic indicators during the transition period. The accent is put on the description of the gross domestic product, the unemployment, the inflation and the foreign trade. The fifth chapter describes gradual approaching of Slovenia to the European Union; the appendix contains particular evaluation of this country from the point of view of Copenhagen criteria fulfilment. The sixth chapter tries to sum up the gathered information related to economic development and achieved results of Slovenia during the transition period
