Three essays on international trade - gravity models applications
Disertační teze:
The project investigates the role of corruption in exports of transition V4 countries and of the control group of the developed members of the EU (Germany, Austria, France and Belgium). We examine whether the corruption has stimulating or deterrent effects on mutual trade and compare the results for both groups.
We assess the role of corruption in the international trade in four aspects. At first we cluster our dataset of trading partners into groups according to their corruption level and corruption development similarity (highly, middle and low corrupt countries).
Secondly, we analyse the role of corruption in exports of both country groups utilizing the gravity model and clusters. We analyse hypothesis on aggregate and sectoral export level that countries tend to trade with the partners of similar corruption level. We compare the results of the corruption role for both groups.
Thirdly, we shift our attention to the analysis of the role of corruption in the value added exports of V4 and our control group utilizing again the GM model.
The last part looks at the corruption-trade relationship from the opposite perspective. It investigates the possible effects of mutual trade on corruption level of the exporting country (corruption diffusion).
