Jozef Baruník was officially appointed Professor of Economics.

President Petr Pavel awarded professorial appointment decrees on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, in the Great Hall of the Carolinum to professors appointed on the proposal of the scientific and artistic councils of universities. Of the total 69 appointees, 23 were new professors from Charles University.

On behalf of the Institute of Economic Studies, the appointment decree was awarded to Prof. PhDr. Jozef Baruník, Ph.D., in the field of Economic Theory.

An economist and expert in financial economics, time series, and quantitative methods at the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. His research focuses on high-frequency data, economic modeling, and machine learning in finance. He is among the most cited economists in the Czech Republic and has received numerous prestigious grants and awards. In 2024, he served on a panel of evaluators for the European Research Council (ERC).
