Our alumnus and current PhD student, Mgr. Tomáš Fencl, has received the Prof. JUDr. Karel Engliš Award for the best graduates of social sciences and humanities programs.
Tomáš Fencl graduated from our institute’s Economics and Finance program with outstanding academic results. During his studies, he also played an important role in organizing student activities, including serving as president of the E-klub student association.
In his master’s thesis, he used advanced models to demonstrate that monetary policy affects households differently — lower-income households primarily through income channels, and wealthier households through asset holdings. For this work, he received the Karel Engliš Award for the best master’s thesis in economic policy from the Czech Economic Society, the IES Director's Award for Distinguished Master’s thesis and the Deloitte Outstanding Thesis Award.
He is currently employed at the Czech National Bank as a Senior Analyst in the Research and Statistics Department. At the same time, he continues his doctoral studies at IES, where he is also involved in teaching the Advanced Macroeconomics course, which was recently recognized with the Golden Course Award for the most popular master’s-level course of the winter semester.
Congratulations!
