Political Donations and Economic Performance of the Donors: Evidence from the Czech Republic

Principal investigator: PhDr. Miroslav Palanský M.A., Ph.D.
Collaborators: Mgr. Tereza Palanská M.A.
Description: According to the existing literature, political connections can add value to the connected firms. This study analyzes whether political connections created by donations to political parties affect the economic performance of the donating companies compared to non-donating firms. Using a novel, hand-collected dataset on all corporate political contributions made between 1993 and 2014, we unveil the structure of the financing of Czech political parties since 1993 and the development of this structure over time.
