The paper discusses the idea whether the scientific research activities can have character determined by maximal (financial) profit of researcher. It objects against such an idea by examples from the history and expresses a belief that even today basic (i.e. really scientific) research is determined (mainly) by desire or ambition to learn something new, to solve some puzzle etc. |
