Abstract: | he object of the thesis is to describe the Czech system of pension funds and put it in an international context. A particular attention is devoted to the issue of low investment performance of Czech pension funds in the past decade. It is argued throughout the thesis that the voluntary pension scheme as currently structured is unlikely to ease the pension problem in the country, and that this can only be accomplished through a systemic pension reform. A number of weaknesses in the regulatory framework are identified and suggestions for improvement are given. The contribution of the thesis is the simulation of the dynamics of assets accumulation in pension funds if a systemic pension reform is adopted in the country, which to the author’s knowledge has not been published so far. |
