Abstract: The study describes the reform of New Zealand economy initiated in 1984. After location of New Zealand within the context of the World Economy and description of its approach to economic policy during 1960-1984 period it focuses on the theoretical underpinnings of changes occurred in the economic policy and public management. Features of the process in its fiscal, monetary and external dimensions follow completed by Welfare State, Industry policy and Labour policy redesign characteristics. After socioeconomic evaluation of the outcome and outlining of the Third Way concept as reaction to it author tries to show how other countries could draw on the reform as a valuable source of inspiration.
