Master in Economics and Finance (MEF)

Master in Economics and Finance (MEF) is a two-year program taught in English offered for students with a completed Bachelor’s degree. The university charges tuition fees for the studies. Students can apply for a number of external scholarships to cover the tuition fees and living expenses.

The program aims to give the student a thorough grounding in both theoretical and applied economics. We put emphasis on developing abstract analytical reasoning, which allows our graduates to solve complex economic problems in various settings. The applicants must have solid background in Mathematics and good command of English. Courses are taught both by our faculty and professionals from the central bank, commercial banks and business analysts. Our graduates typically assume challenging positions in banking, consulting, investment funds, and public administration.

To complete the program the students must (i) collect 120 ECTS credits, (ii) defend their Master’s Thesis and (iii) pass the final comprehensive examination. Students need to take 5 mandatory courses and 2 mandatory seminars worth 48 credits in total (listed below). In additions the students should collect minimum 60 credits from elective courses offered at IES and maximum 12 credits from optional master courses offered outside IES (including Czech language classes).

  • 3 compulsory courses (9-10 ECTS credits each): 28 credits
  • 2 compulsory seminars (10 ECTS credits each): 20 credits
  • core and other elective courses: minimum 60 credits, of which at least 36 credits from the group of core elective courses
