Program Overview
Our Master in Economics and Finance (MEF) program is designed to help you acquire quantitative and qualitative skills that are essential for solving complex economic problems in various areas of the financial industry. We place great emphasis on developing your analytical competence that helps you build a rich understanding of finance phenomena and propose practical solutions to modern economic challenges. We offer you a wide range of electives to prepare you for challenging and rewarding professional careers in various areas of finance and investment. You will learn from esteemed academics and industry experts. In fact, four of our faculty members were recently recognized among the country’s leading researchers (see here). Prestigious Charles University is consistently ranked the top academic institution in the Czech Republic, both overall (see here) and in economics (see here) and is renowned for the expertise of our graduates.
The MEF curriculum is recognized by the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) Institute. The MEF program’s high reputation among prospective employers lets you fully exploit your intellectual potential and acquire a dream job that makes a difference. Our graduates typically take on challenging positions in investment firms, consulting firms, and commercial banks. Some of them also work as analysts for local and international public organizations. Our program is also a good choice if you are considering doctoral (Ph.D.) studies in the future.
Find more information about the program here, in a facstheet here and see a complete list of courses here.
The MEF program also offers ample exchange opportunities for studies at one of our partner universities: see here and here. Read the graduates’ testimonials here and here. For the latest news and updates, follow us on Instagram here.
Prague is one of Europe’s most vibrant student cities, celebrated for its rich cultural life, affordability, safety, and welcoming atmosphere. It has recently (January 2026) been named the best student city in Europe (see here). It is also considered one of the world's safest cities (see here). Find more information about Prague here and here.
The Czech Republic boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in the EU (see here). Local firms prize graduates with strong training in economics and finance. This will help you find a stimulating job that makes an impact and realize a good “return on your investment” in further enhancing your competence.
Admission Requirements
We welcome motivated applicants who have a basic knowledge of quantitative methodology and a good command of English. Since our program exposes you to advanced topics in economics and finance, we look for sufficient background knowledge in mathematics and solid quantitative skills. It is an advantage for you to already have basic knowledge of economics and/or finance, but we do not require it. You should be able to communicate with us in English without difficulty. We will evaluate your motivation to study economics and finance and your career plans. We particularly welcome applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business administration, mathematics, physics, engineering, or other technical fields. Find further information about the admission requirements here and the application process here.

If you do not have a corresponding certificate, please upload a file that refers the evaluation committee to other documents to evaluate your aptitude for studies and English language competence.
There are currently two application deadlines:
- 30 June 2026 (Late Deadline)
- 31 August 2026 (Extended Deadline)
We recommend that the extended deadline be used only by applicants who already hold the legal right to stay in Czechia (e.g., travel visa, temporary residence, or refugee status) for the 2026/2027 academic year. Please review the visa process before applying.
