Centrum veřejných financí

The Centre for Public Finance has been operating at the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University since 2024. It is primarily funded by grants and private donations.

Led by Professor Petr Janský, the Centre brings together a team of public finance experts with backgrounds in government, media, the private sector, and civil society. Many of them have studied or worked at leading domestic and international universities. Among the core team members are Aleš Bělohradský, an expert on the state budget with experience from the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Government, and Markéta Malá and Kristina Zindulková, who specialise in various areas of tax policy.

The Centre’s mission is to improve the quality of life in the Czech Republic through better public finance. We advocate for a modern state budget that is targeted, efficient, and well-evaluated. Our experts analyse the effects of public revenues and expenditures on economic growth, inequality, and sustainability, and use research-based insights to propose meaningful reforms.

We are committed to evidence-based dialogue and seek consensus across the political spectrum. Through our media work and close engagement with policymakers, civil servants, and fellow researchers, we help advance necessary changes to public finance in the Czech Republic.

International Collaboration

We collaborate with academic and policy institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad, including the Institute for Fiscal Studies (UK), OECD Tax, CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, PAQ Research, and IDEA think-tank.
