  • IES Students Won the Local Round of the CFA Research Challenge

    On Thursday, February 4, 2021, a team of four students of the Institute of Economic Studies (FSS, Charles University),
    Anna Umlaufová, Martin Bosák, Tiep Luu Danh and Matěj Sainer won the Local Round of the prestigious CFA Research Challenge
    an annual global student competition organized by the CFA Institute.
    Given the epidemiological situation, the Czech and Slovak finals (presentations of the top five teams) took place online this year.

  • Jozef Baruník became a consultant to Market intelligence division at the Bank of England

    In January 2021, our colleague and Program Director of the MFDA program, Jozef Baruník,
    became an external consultant to Market intelligence division at the Bank of England where he will contribute to the research priorities areas focused on the impact of financial markets on real economy, policy and markets, and also provide regular consultations to the research teams.

  • Prof. Michal Mejstřík Passed Away

    On January 7, 2021, our colleague, a prominent Czech economist, co-founder and former long-term Director of the Institute of Economic Studies, prof. Ing. Michal Mejstřík, CSc., passed away.

  • Petr Janský presented his research on harmful tax practices at EP Public Hearing

    At the beginning of December, our colleague, Associate Prof. Petr Janský took part in a panel discussion within European Parliament
    "Do harmful tax practices within and outside the EU create distortions of competition in the Single Market?”,
    where members of the Subcommittee on Tax Matters discussed with their guests the existence of current harmful tax practices outside the EU and how the existing tools could be improved to eliminate them. The debate then focused on to what extent harmful tax practices within the EU create distortions of competition in the Single Market and which legislative or non-legislative tools could be used to tackle them.

  • Prof. Mlčoch was awarded the CES Prize for long-term contribution to the development of Czech economic learning

    Congratulations to Professor Lubomír Mlčoch, for becoming a laureate of this year’s
    CES Prize for long-term contribution to the development of Czech economic learning.

  • IES Students and Alumni Were Awarded the CES Awards

    The Czech Economic Society (CES) awards the Young Economist of the Year Award to members of the Czech economics community under 30 years of age every year, who register for the competition by submitting their original, professional papers. 
    Furthermore, the CES can also decide to award the Karl Engliš Prize to the paper best dealing with Czech economic policy. 

    We are happy to see our students and alumni among the laureates regularly.

    Těší nás, že v obou kategoriích pravidelně vídáme oceněné práce našich studentů a absolventů. 
    V letošním roce uspěli tři studenti doktorského programu na IES - Marek Šedivý,  Dominika Ehrenbergerová a Josef Bajzík.
    Hlavní cenu Mladý ekonom získal absolvent bakalářského programu na IES Bruno Baránek.
