Master in Economics and Finance (MEF) is a two-year program taught in English offered for students with a completed Bachelor’s degree. The university charges tuition fees for the studies. Students can apply for a number of external scholarships to cover the tuition fees and living expenses and qualify for tuition fee reduction.

The program aims to give the student a thorough grounding in both theoretical and applied economics. We put emphasis on developing abstract analytical reasoning, which allows our graduates to solve complex economic problems in various settings. The applicants must have solid background in Mathematics and good command of English. Courses are taught both by our faculty and professionals from the central bank, commercial banks and business analysts. Our graduates typically assume challenging positions in banking, consulting, investment funds, and public administration.

To complete the program the students must (i) collect 120 ECTS credits, (ii) sucessfully defend their Master’s Thesis and pass a general discussion that is related to the topics covered by the Thesis. Students need to take 5 compulsory courses and 2 compulsory seminars worth 48 credits in total (listed below). In additions the students should collect minimum 60 credits from elective courses offered at IES and maximum 12 credits from optional courses offered outside IES (including Czech language classes). 

Courses

• 3 compulsory courses on Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics, and Advanced Econometrics (9-10 ECTS credits each): 28 credits
• 2 compulsory Master's Thesis Seminars (10 ECTS credits each) to support the writing of the Master's Thesis (typically in the second year of studies): 20 credits
• core and other elective courses: minimum 60 credits (about 10 courses), of which at least 36 credits (6 courses) from the group of core elective courses
• optional courses: maximum 12 credits
• Master Thesis: defence and general discussion
