IES Students Won the Local Round of the CFA Research Challenge

On Thursday, February 4, 2021, a team of four students of the Institute of Economic Studies (FSS, Charles University),
Anna Umlaufová, Martin Bosák, Tiep Luu Danh and Matěj Sainer won the Local Round of the prestigious CFA Research Challenge
an annual global student competition organized by the CFA Institute.
Given the epidemiological situation, the Czech and Slovak finals (presentations of the top five teams) took place online this year.

The CFA Research Challenge is a unique opportunity for students from all over the world to try out the financial valuation of a particular company in the market. In this year's local competition, the task was to prepare an analysis of Česká zbrojovka Group.

Each team can consult their steps with a mentor who has many years of experience in portfolio management or financial analysis and already holds a CFA degree. This year, the IES team cooperated with Michal Šperka as their mentor.
Jiří Novák from IES helped to assemble the team also supported the team during this time-consuming challenge.

The jury evaluated the students based on their analytical skills, the quality of the final report, as well as their presentation skills.
Our students won the first place by 12 points over the second team.
This is the third victory for Charles University students in the history of this competition - IES students previously won the local round of the CFA Research Challenge in the years 2016 and 2018.
