  • Jiří Kukačka appointed Associate Professor in Economic Theory

    We are pleased to announce that our colleague Jiří Kukačka has been appointed Associate Professor in the field of Economic Theory, effective 1 March, 2026, following the successful defense of his habilitation thesis titled “Econometrics of Agent-Based Models in Macroeconomics and Finance.” Congratulations!
  • Wellbeing Day on 12 March 2026 in Jinonice

    In the morning of 12 March 2026, you can once again meet therapy dogs and enjoy a tasty breakfast prepared by student clubs in the foyer of building C in the Jinonice Campus. There will be table football you can play.
  • Results of the elections of student ombudspeople for 2026/2027

    The results of the elections of student ombudspeople for the period 2026/2027 are now known. The elections took place on 3 and 4 March 2026 at the Institute of Economic Studies, the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism and the Institute of Sociological Studies. At the Institute of International Studies and the Institute of Political Studies, a single candidate was automatically elected.
  • Research seminar: Matthias Kifmann (University of Hamburg)

    We would like to invite you to a research seminar by Matthias Kifmann, Professor of Economics at the University of Hamburg. Matthias Kifmann will present his paper called Reciprocity in Medical Treatment Decisions: A Theoretical Model and a Laboratory Experiment. The seminar will take place on *Tuesday*, March 24, 2026, in Room 206 at 18:30.
  • Research seminar: Jakob Miethe (Economics at LMU Munich)

    We would like to invite you to a research seminar by Jakob Miethe, Assistant Professor of Economics at LMU Munich. Jakob Miethe will present his paper called Homes Incorporated: Offshore Ownership of Real Estate in the U.K. The seminar will take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Room 314 at 12:30.
  • prg․ai Minor is reopening its doors to all AI enthusiasts

    A unique collaboration between top lecturers from four faculties of Univerzita Karlova (Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University) and České vysoké učení technické v Praze (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Information Technology CTU in Prague) in an inter-university program. Applications are open until March 22, 2026.

Life at our Institute

  • Join the activities of student clubs E-klub and FSV UK Circle

    The main goal of the IES students' club  E-Klub is the positive development of scientific and social life at Charles University. It acts as a link between the IES management and its students. Currently, the E-Klub focuses on organizing lectures and a wide range of cultural or sporting events for IES students. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram not to miss any. 
    As an international student, you should also check out the recently established club for international students, called FSV UK Circle. 

  • Study abroad

    Take the opportunity to study abroad! Erasmus+ is not the only option: Inter-university agreements and inter-faculty agreements provide many study-abroad opportunities; students may also study abroad with CEEPUS (eastern and central Europe). Alternatively, students may undertake an individual exchange as a freemover, if they organize the exchange by themselves.

  • Become a member of the Alumni group!

    The Alumni Association has been operating since 1997 as a voluntary association of graduates of the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences at the Charles University (IES FSV UK). The main tasks of the Alumni are organizing annual meetings (Banquets) of members and supporters of the Alumni, distinguished guests and sponsors of the Association, raising funds and providing other means of support for IES FSV UK.
