IES Director presented the Awards for Distinguished Master’s and Bachelor’s Theses in June 2026
The IES Director's Award for Distinguished Master’s and Bachelor’s Theses has been awarded since the beginning of 2024 at the occasion of each Bachelor's and Master's Final State Exams. These are organized as a thesis defense with a follow-up general discussion on the thesis topic and are held three times a year - usually in January, June and September. -
Call for submissions: Josef Vavroušek Student Award
Submit your thesis to the competition for Josef Vavroušek Student Award which recognizes outstanding works of a social science or interdisciplinary nature with a social science overlap, following the legacy of Josef Vavroušek as a personality who advocated sustainable development as a harmonious coexistence of people, society and nature with an emphasis on responsibility towards future generations. Application deadline is 24 July 2026. -
Czech Journal of Economics and Finance Enters a New Era with a New Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Team, and Website
Our scientific journal, the Czech Journal of Economics and Finance (formerly Finance a úvěr), is moving to its new chapter. Simona Malovaná has been appointed the new Managing Editor. She is affiliated with the Institute of Economic Studies at Charles University’s Faculty of Social Sciences and also serves as the Director of Research and Statistics Department at the Czech National Bank. She will be joined by Jiří Kukačka from the Institute of Economic Studies and Martin Hodula from the Czech National Bank as co-editors. -
Student evaluation of teaching in SS 2025/2026
We ask students to fill in the teaching evaluation for the summer semester 2025/2026. By filling out the questionnaire, you are helping to improve the quality of teaching. The questionnaire is available at the web address https://hodnoceni.fsv.cuni.cz/ after logging in via CAS. The evaluation questionnaire is available until 28 June 2026. -
Summer Opening Hours 2026
During the summer, individual libraries and other faculty services will operate on a reduced schedule. -
Compact Courses in September 2026
In September 2026, we will again offer several compact courses in a “block” format, i.e., delivered over 2-3 days. All compact courses will count into the Winter Semester 2026/27 and are open for registration from September 1 until the first day of the course (included). Use the unique opportunity to meet visiting professors from universities abroad and gain new knowledge in economics and finance!

Join the activities of student clubs E-klub and FSV UK Circle
The main goal of the IES students' club E-Klub is the positive development of scientific and social life at Charles University. It acts as a link between the IES management and its students. Currently, the E-Klub focuses on organizing lectures and a wide range of cultural or sporting events for IES students. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram not to miss any.
As an international student, you should also check out the recently established club for international students, called FSV UK Circle. -
Study abroad
Take the opportunity to study abroad! Erasmus+ is not the only option: Inter-university agreements and inter-faculty agreements provide many study-abroad opportunities; students may also study abroad with CEEPUS (eastern and central Europe). Alternatively, students may undertake an individual exchange as a freemover, if they organize the exchange by themselves.

Become a member of the Alumni group!
The Alumni Association has been operating since 1997 as a voluntary association of graduates of the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences at the Charles University (IES FSV UK). The main tasks of the Alumni are organizing annual meetings (Banquets) of members and supporters of the Alumni, distinguished guests and sponsors of the Association, raising funds and providing other means of support for IES FSV UK.
